Lipidi ry is a non-profit student organisation for all students in in food -related fields. Our members are mainly food science, -chemistry and -technology students but also for example microbiology and food economy are represented. Currently we have almost 500 members making us one of the biggest student organizations in Viikki campus. Participating in Lipidi’s events is an easy way to get to know the Finnish student culture and meet Finnish students. We welcome warmly exchange students to all of our events.
Every year we organize various events for our members. Whether you are keen for parties, culture, sports or food industry excursions, there is something for you! In addition, we have academic dinners (aka Sitsit) where a three-course meal is being served while singing drinking songs, weekly coffee and snacks -meeting, and lots more.
The easiest way to get informed of our events is to join our e-mail list (instructions on the website – mailing list). This is free of charge and you can also resign at any time you like. This doesn’t bind you anyway, you just get the information of our events and you can attend in those which interest you most.
If you’d like to really blend in with Finnish students, we have Lipidi-overalls for sale. The package costs only 30 € and includes
1) Overalls (which are pure turquoise awesomeness)
2) A Lipidi-patch for the overalls
In Finland pretty much every student organization has their unique overalls and it shows the “group” we belong to. Lipidi’s overalls are turquoise. The idea is to have an outfit that suits for every weather and is almost indestructible. You can wear as many clothes (or nothing at all) underneath it, while the overalls provide the stain proof outer shell. As your studies advance you collect patches, which you sow into the overalls. By the amount of patches you can tell (in theory) whether somebody is a freshman or already a more experienced student.

One of Lipidi’s goals is to help our members with studies. On our website we have Lipidiwiki! There you can find old exam questions that can help you pass courses. You can also send exam questions to our e-mail lipidi-ry@helsinki.fi and an admin will add the questions to the Lipidiwiki.
Every autumn there is an election, in which the students vote a board for the next year. Lipidi’s board consists of 16-17 members who are responsible for organizing all the events during the year.
